Social Media & The Future of the Cuckmere

The Cuckmere Estuary Partnership has built a good site that outlines the current problem with lower Cuckmere, and how ‘managed realignment’ might work.

It’s full of interesting facts about the history and management of the lower Cuckmere – well worth a read – though it would be good to see more detail on the current ecology of the site, and likely impacts of the ‘preferred option’.

There’s a discussion going on there that seems to be gathering a head of steam, where questions can be addressed to the project’s partners, included the Environment Agency.

Also of interest: cuckmere.blogspot.com (subtitled “The ghosts of Exceat… what’s really goining on at Cuckmere Haven?), which is run anonymously by Sussex blogger “deus ex machina”.

In their latest post, they take local Conservative candidate Jason Sugarman to task for some rather alarmist claims that he made last year about what the Environment Agency’s plans would do to the Cuckmere.

Fantastic to see social media opening up the debate on this, ahem, muddy issue. With enough good web citzens, perhaps we’ll get a better informed conversation than last time.
